Computer Energy Links

FAS-CERP's Computer Energy Links are separated into six categories:

  • Research
  • Government & Industry Initiatives
  • Taking Action on Computer Energy
  • "Green Computing" Guides
  • Focus on Printing
  • Focus on Lifecycle Impacts

Research

Scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories have conducted many studies related to computer energy. Reports are available as PDFs from LBNL's online catalog. In particular, see publications released by the Energy End-Use Forcasting and the Environmental Energy Technologies divisions. Of particular interest are the following reports and studies:

  • User Guide to Power Management in PCs and Monitors (1997)
  • Energy Use and Power Management in New Personal Computers and Monitors (2002)
  • After-hours Power Status of Office Equipment and Energy Use... (2004)
  • PC and monitor night status: Power management enabling and manual turn-off (1998)

Government Initiatives

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Program provides information about energy-efficient computers, monitors, printers and scanners. The scoop on power management can also be found here.
