We all know the saying—"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!"
The Rs are placed in the order of what we should try to do first to be most effective and have the smallest environmental impact—a message we try to bring to the students. This page covers the activities the Harvard Green Campus Initiative's Green Living Program (GLP) has undertaken to reduce waste:
Junk Mail Reduction
Objective
To educate students about how to take action to reduce their junk mail and to educate about the importance of “reducing”
Partners
Harvard Recycling and the house (dormitory) superintendents and mail room officers
Activities
GLP reps have done the following to educate dormitory residents about the steps they can take to reduce their junk mail:
- postering around mail rooms
- emailing students
- leaving small notices on reused paper in students' mailboxes
Resources
Holiday Greening: Conscious Consumption
Objective
To educate students about the importance of consuming consciously and how to make wise choices in their purchasing decisions
Activities
Reps have:
- tabled in the dining halls before the holiday break to educate students about "green” gifts;
- raffled off green gifts to create awareness.
