Program Host

In the Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI) model, the partner that hosts the green living program (GLP) provides the following:

  • strategic oversight and connection to wider campus sustainability efforts
  • financial and administrative support
  • oversight for program growth and development

A representative from the hosting office should be included on the GLP steering group.

Relational Benefits

From the host organization, steering group members gain:

  • an understanding of wider campus sustainability efforts;
  • a central location for both GLP and other campus-greening efforts;
  • a connection to each other through the host organization’s efforts.

Likewise, the GLP coordinator gains:

  • mentoring on personal leadership and program development;
  • strategic insight into the GLP’s role in past, current and future sustainability efforts.

And the student employees gain:

  • an understanding of wider campus sustainability efforts;
  • mentoring on personal progress and leadership support;
  • managerial support for project ideas that may go beyond the scope of the GLP.

From the steering group, GLP coordinator and student employees, the host organization gains:

  • a network of resources and individuals to tap into for knowledge, communication, publicity and growth;
  • an increased campus profile;
  • relationships and suggestions that could lead to the development of programs beyond the GLP.
