Program Host
In the Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI) model, the partner that hosts the green living program (GLP) provides the following:
- strategic oversight and connection to wider campus sustainability efforts
- financial and administrative support
- oversight for program growth and development
A representative from the hosting office should be included on the GLP steering group.
Relational Benefits
From the host organization, steering group members gain:
- an understanding of wider campus sustainability efforts;
- a central location for both GLP and other campus-greening efforts;
- a connection to each other through the host organization’s efforts.
Likewise, the GLP coordinator gains:
- mentoring on personal leadership and program development;
- strategic insight into the GLP’s role in past, current and future sustainability efforts.
And the student employees gain:
- an understanding of wider campus sustainability efforts;
- mentoring on personal progress and leadership support;
- managerial support for project ideas that may go beyond the scope of the GLP.
From the steering group, GLP coordinator and student employees, the host organization gains:
- a network of resources and individuals to tap into for knowledge, communication, publicity and growth;
- an increased campus profile;
- relationships and suggestions that could lead to the development of programs beyond the GLP.
