Alumni

Reaching out to alums is a great way to build a community of involvement for a green living program (GLP). You can involve alums through the following:

  • campus-greening newsletters
  • email updates or listserves
  • campus conferences
  • specific alumni events

Alums can be a great asset to a GLP through their general support, financial donations, strategic advice based on their experience at the college or university, and professional advice in the realm of sustainability.

Alums as Donors

If an alum donates money to the program, be sure to thank him or her and give proper recognition, such as through a celebration or the naming of a fund. Work with the alumni affairs or development office on campus to ensure that you are following policies and regulations around handling donations.

Alum Endowment Funds

If your college or university has an endowment, you may be able to invest your donation in it to grow the funds. Try to find out if this is a possibility if you do not need to use the funds immediately for the program.
