Other Supporters

Many other groups and individuals can help your green living program (GLP) in some way. Think creatively about who might want to be involved.

Non-Steering Group Administrative Partners

Build partnerships with staff on campus who are not on your steering group. Administrators, for example, can help by giving permission to hold campus-wide events or providing advice on how to approach various campus issues.

Donations from Off-Campus Community

Many local businesses are happy to donate gift certificates or services to worthy causes. Use these donations as incentives to get students involved in GLP activities.

Building Off-Campus Partners through Conferences

Conferences are a great way to meet people working in the campus-greening field and to learn about people at other colleges working on similar issues. They offer you and your reps the opportunity to present your program to other schools, share ideas and build your presentation skills.

You could even consider running a conference on your own campus. While conferences take a lot of planning and time, they can be invigorating activities and add legitimacy to your efforts. Holding a conference is an excellent way to publicly demonstrate support for the sustainability movement.

Off-Campus Environmental Groups

Off-campus students and professionals can help by sharing resources and offering advice based on their experiences. It is comforting to know there is a community of talented, intelligent and inspiring individuals working throughout the country and the world—both on and off campuses—on the same kinds of issues you are trying to address.
