Funding the Interns
Sponsors can be found inside or outside of your organization. Consider which departments or schools at your college or university might be interested in your project ideas. Prepare an initial work plan that proves the feasibility of your project and its eventual contribution. Actively engage a wide range of potential sponsors in the development process of the work plan, revising it a number of times to incorporate sponsor needs and requirements.
If you are in a position to manage and house the intern, thereby providing workspace, a computer, phone and office supplies, then you should offer to do so. This may be an appealing option for potential sponsors. By housing and managing the intern, you increase your chances of securing funding for the project. If you are applying for funding from outside the campus community, then demonstrate that you have the organizational capacity to run the project. Successfully managing a single internally funded internship can give you a leg up when seeking funding from outside your organization.
