Orientation

OrientationOnce you have your sponsor, work plan and intern, the next step is to orient the intern to his or her new situation. It is recommended that you cover the logistics of working for your institution in a special orientation for new interns.

Topics to cover include how to report hours, building access and security policies, computer and phone access, use of office space, who's who in the host and sponsoring departments, a three-month calendar of internship activities, introductions to fellow interns (if any) and lessons learned from past internships, just to name a few.

Depending upon how many interns you have, it can be fine to conduct intern orientations on an individual or group basis.
