Reporting and Monitoring

Reporting and MonitoringThe intern would ideally meet with the student internship program (SIP) manager multiple times per week. In the first few days, the SIP manager may spend the majority of his or her time with the interns to ensure that they have what they need to move productively ahead. Staggering the start dates if you have multiple interns can be helpful for this reason. Ideally, the SIP manager should keep her or his door open (or phone and email avenues open) at all times to allow interns access whenever there is a need.

Regular meetings with advisory groups should be scheduled at the beginning of the internship. The frequency of these meetings should be enough to foster good relations with the sponsors but not too many as to waste their time. The Harvard Green Campus Initiative typically established two sponsor meetings in the first month and one meeting each month after that. A special project review meeting was also organized at the conclusion of the internship. The intern should be prepared to actively participate in these meetings, presenting project updates, answering questions and receiving input. The meetings should be organized and facilitated by the SIP manager.
