Who supports the HBS Green Living Program?
Harvard Business School (HBS) Operations provides the financial support for the HBS Green Living Program. Their support funds the program activities and marketing efforts, six Green Living Representatives, and a coordinator through the Office for Sustainability. A Steering Group provides guidance and leadership for the program.

Program history
In 2005, the Director of the Harvard Green Campus Initiative (the organization from which the Office for Sustainability was formed) proposed that there be an occupant behavioral change program similar to the undergraduate Resource Efficiency Program for graduate residences operated by Harvard Real Estate Services (HRES), the Harvard Business School, and the Harvard Law School (HLS). Harvard Business School gave their instant financial and managerial support to the concept proposed by the Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI) and both HBS and HLS moved quickly to partner with the HGCI in funding a joint effort with Residential Real Estate, to be called the Graduate Green Living Program.
Loosely modeled on the successful undergraduate program, the Graduate Green Living Program was developed to educate and engage residents in shifting their priorities and behaviors to reduce the unnecessary consumption of resources (energy, water), to minimize the general creation of waste (through recycling, reuse, and procurement), and to generally take greater responsibility for their own role in driving University-related environmental impacts. Since its inception, the Graduate Green Living Program has split into two separate entities, the HLS Green Living Program and the HBS Green Living Program.
The HBS Green Living Program is currently entering its fifth year. The program will continue in successfully using student workers to deliver messages in their residences and common areas on campus. The decision of Harvard to create this occupant engagement programs was a monumental step forward for Harvard, enabling the University to create the first-known graduate level green living program in the United States.
