The Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) Green Program is a collaborative effort between Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard’s Office for Sustainability with the purpose of engaging faculty, students, and staff in developing and institutionalizing a commitment to campus sustainability arising from a shared mission to enhance human and ecological health.
The HSPH Green Program is the product of an ongoing collaboration between HSPH Operations and Harvard’s Office for Sustainability, which created the EcoOpportunity Team in order to include departmental representation and leadership in sustainability initiatives at the School. Some sustainability initiatives created through this collaboration and monthly EcoOpportunity Team meetings include the Harvard Sustainability Pledge campaign, Green Tips of the Month, “Take a Lid Off” composting program outreach, “Trash the Trash” waste reduction campaign, and Take the Stairs campaign and competition, as well as Earth Day celebrations and events.
The HSPH and Harvard Medical School (HMS) Green Programs share a Longwood Sustainability Coordinator employed by Harvard’s Office for Sustainability. The Longwood Sustainability Coordinator works closely with facilities, operations, communications, administrative, and research staff at both schools, while simultaneously engaging student groups and staff green teams.
