HRES SBP Achievements
The 2003 HRES Sustainable Building Activity Report provides a summary of all HRES Sustainable Building Program efforts up to January 2004.
To date, staff throughout HRES have successfully engaged in a wide range of sustainable building projects including:
- Project managers have incorporated LEED or EnergyStar into over 8 building and renovation projects
- Over $1.2 million in energy conservation projects in a five year period. Annual Savings = $714,000. NSTAR Rebates = $612,486. Average payback period for these projects = less than 2 years. Annual Greenhouse Gas emission reductions = 9,269,000 pounds
- Procurement staff have supported a switch to a myriad of environmentally preferred products including 100% recycled office paper, recycled content paper towels, recycled content plastic bin liners, remanufactured toner cartridges, low VOC paints, energy efficient light bulbs and appliances, etc.
- Geothermal energy supply is now under consideration for 3 buildings
- General staff have contributed to increased recycling rates for paper, glass containers, fluorescent light tubes, batteries, carpet, discarded computers and furniture
- Planning staff have worked to incorporate sustainability objectives into campus planning efforts
- Environmental procurement guidelines and green renovation standards have been drafted.
- Building Managers are engaged in active peer-to-peer training initiatives to enhance organizational learning for high performance building operations.
