About the Program
What is the Harvard Green Campus Student Internship Program?
Since
the summer of 2001, over 20 student interns have been employed, trained
and managed through the HGCI, working on
a wide range of campus environmental
projects. The student internship program has been leveraged by the HGCI
to secure ongoing funding for a number of new full or part-time positions
to work on a range of Green Campus programs. A number of student interns
have been recruited by the HGCI to fill a number of new positions.
Every summer the HGCI secures engagement from a number of departments
and schools willing to sponsor a student internship project for the
summer. Student internships are only possible if schools and departments
fund them. Harvard summer interns are employed for 10-12 weeks, June-September,
35hr/wk ($12-18/hr) to work with the HGCI and associated sponsors to
research and develop new environmentally preferred, cost effective approaches
to campus operations. The intern provides his or hersponsoring school/department
with 400 hours of research time, and is further supported by the HGCI
with 200 hours of project management, administration and web support
time.
Everyone wins. Schools/Departments reap the benefits of low cost research and development, students have a valuable (and funded) learning experience and the HGCI furthers its core mission of "greening" Harvard University.
Please note, the HGCI is not actively employing interns every summer. When positions are available, they will be listed here and on the Harvard University employment website.
Please do not directly contact the Harvard Green Campus Initiative with inquiries about internship positions.
