How to Submit Artwork

Deadline

Entries—including a work of art or design, written statement and submission form—must be received by 5PM on Monday, April 3rd, 2006 . We will confirm receipt of your entry after receiving these materials.

Art Specifications

The visual arts–2D, 3D and digital media–including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, graphic design, video and computer animation. Submissions must be originals, created by the entrant for the Vision of Sustainability competition, and must not have been previously exhibited.

2D Specs: Submissions must measure 16x20 inches or less and have a height-to-width or width-to-height between 1:1.25 and 1:1.5. Pieces that do not fit these criteria will be considered only if submitted in a frame suitable for exhibition.

3D Specs: Weight restriction of 30 lbs with no side measuring more than 30 inches.

Digital Media Specs: Original production files submitted on DVD or CD. Still images should meet the 2D specs above. Video and animation entries should not exceed 5 minutes and should include a windows Media Player, Quicktime or Flash version in addition to the high-res production files.

Statement Specifications

To be considered for a prize, entries must include a 500-word, typed statement explaining the ideas communicated in the artwork. Statements should address:

Please note that this rule does not apply to preschoolers and that we are asking instead for short quotes by the kids to be sent along with their entries.

Submission Form

Please be sure to include a completed, signed submission form with your entry.

Delivery

Please be sure to keep a digital or paper copy of your artwork, written statement and completed submission form. The originals should be sent or hand delivered to the following campus address:

If sending through U.S. or University Mail, please prepare package to ensure safe delivery of the artwork. The Harvard Green Campus Initiative is not responsible for damage done to the artwork while in transit.

If hand delivering, please see the map below. The HGCI is in the brick building on the corner of Western Ave. and Blackstone St. The entrance in on Blackstone Street. Please ring the doorbell to be let into the building. Tell the receptionists you have a delivery for the Vision of Sustainability competition, and they will direct you to the Harvard Green Campus Initiative office.

Return of Artwork

Contestants who do not receive a prize will have their original works returned to them if they:

All submissions of any kind that are chosen for a prize by Harvard University will thereafter be retained and owned by Harvard University for exhibition and outreach purposes with acknowledgment to the artist. For the full ownership statement, please click here.
